Company Study:

This is the cornerstone of the Trinity MBA and involved myself and a team of four others working with the Board a major Irish bank/plc.

The project involved four components;

* Industry Analysis – Assessing the competitive and market forces at work within their industry.
* Company Analysis – Issue Identification – Assessing the company’s strengths, weaknesses and competencies. Comparison of company’s competitive status within their industry’s dynamics.
* Issue Identification & Analysis – In-depth analysis of a specific strategic challenge that the company was facing.
* Recommendations – Practical, actionable recommendations to resolve the issue analysed.

Employment  1994 – 2011

Founder / Director – The Investment Club Network Ltd.

TICN is an education company I set up in 1999 which teaches people how to invest, on-line, in the US stock market (equities, options & derivatives). Revenues are generated through the provision of live education seminars, internet based interactive classes which teach our propriety investment methodologies. We also assist in the setting up of Investment Clubs.

I was primarily responsible for the design of this unique business model. We have approximately 16,000 members, spread over four continents. I presently sit on the Board of Directors in a non executive capacity. See www.ticn.com . As a non exec dir, I do not receive any remuneration from this company.

I was awarded a Masters in Business Administration post- graduate degree from the School of Business, Trinity College Dublin, on completion of a one year full time course.

Business Development Manager – Vimio plc

Vimio plc are in the field of video data compression across mobile telephone networks. Much of this proprietary technology was developed in its R&D department, based in Umea, Sweden. I was recruited by the CEO, Malachy Harkin, in August 2005 just after the company was floated on the London AIM market. In addition to managing existing accounts, I was responsible for pro-actively generating new business with multinational Mobile Network Operators. I was also responsible for drawing up all contracts entered into by the company and for the negotiation of the terms of these, prior to Board approval.

I was responsible for the setting up and implementation of the company CRM system, Intranet and the design and maintenance of the company web site (www.vimio.com). I also played a significant role in the development of the company’s product road map and its positioning strategy. During my time at Vimio plc, I gained extensive experience in negotiating at Board level with the largest mobile network operators in the Middle East, India, Africa, United Kingdom, United States, Australia and Russia.

Director – Northside Counselling Services Ltd, Dublin, Ireland

I was invited to join the board of directors in a voluntary capacity during 2002. NCSL are a voluntary organisation which are the largest privately funded providers of counseling services in Ireland as well as one of the countries largest educators of counsellors to Diploma level. My contribution to the organisation included strategy development, providing guidance on source of funds and normal board responsibilities.

E A Blaney & Associates – Management Consultancy

Covering all aspects of running an SME, I completed a number of complex assignments mostly in the Food & Beverage sector. The focus was on increasing financial and operational efficiencies as well as developing long/short term and expansion strategies, defining stock control systems while also implementing key ICT projects.

Executive Director – TICN Ltd.

While working full time with the company I was responsible for marketing, I.T., while also organising and presenting courses to 250+ participants.

Publican / Nightclub – Owner Manager of two premises

The Central Bar & The Pub , Letterkenny Co. Donegal ,Turnover of €2,200,000 pa, staff of fifty, serving 200 covers/day.

Chairman – Donegal Motor Club Ltd., Letterkenny, Ireland

I was Chairman of the motor club which had over three thousand members. This was an extremely challenging role as we were responsible for the staging of, among others, the annual Donegal International motor rally. This is the largest sporting event in the county and contributes over €20 million per annum to the local economy. Other duties included liaising with radio, television and print media and the development and formulation of strategic plans.

Various other Positions

* I worked as a stock controller and introduced electronic stock control systems into four licensed premises with a combined turnover of €6Mn. I was solely responsible for identifying and rectifying any discrepancies and carried out complete stock checks on a bi-weekly basis. (3 years).

* Manager of a Filling station and Tyre depot (3 years).
* New / Used car salesman, London (1 year).
* Owner of Prestige Car Care, Dublin (2 years). PCC was the first Car Valet company to open in Dublin City.
