Even though economies have always worked in a cyclical manner the Government choose to ignore this and the old adage of saving for a rainy day. Indeed, at the very time that they were spending unprecedented amounts of money derived from record tax receipts, it was clear from the OECD that we were the most indebted nation in Europe and possibly the world with a few exception.
