This is a lap of the Nurburgring (Nordschleife) in Germany, the most challenging and dangerous circuit in the World. Which is why they had to stop using it for FIA sanctioned events ! The ‘holy grail’ for road legal cars is to lap it in under 8 minutes. In this video the driver gets around in 6.48 driving a Radical S8 LM, a new record., for a road legal production car. If you want to know the true meaning of commitment, watch this.
I have lapped a circuit in England in an S3 and it is, just pure mental fast. The amazing thing about this record attempt is how utterly committed the driver is, just watch the red ‘brake’ indicator in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and see just how few times, even coming down from 150+ mph, he stands on them. Respect.
The Radical SR8 is a British made track day car which is also road legal and is powered by an a bespoke 2.7ltr V8 engine which is actually two Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engines joined mated to a common crankshaft. Hayabusa was named Cycle World’s ‘Superbike Of The Year’ and Motorcyclist’s ‘Motorcycle Of The Year.’ It also won Popular Mechanics’ 2000 Design & Engineering Award and was named the ‘World’s Fastest Production Bike’ in the millennium issue of the Guinness Book Of World Records.
The most popular Radical model, over 400 SR3s have been built in Clubsport, Supersport, and Tracksport models. The car is built on a spaceframe chassis, and uses a variety of Powertec-tuned motorcycle engines for power. Turbocharging is also available on the motors for even more power. Base versions produce 252 hp (188 kW) and get the SR3 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 3.8 seconds and on to 147 mph (237 km/h). The car can pull 2.5 G when cornering !
